Joshua Jackson: Katie Holmes Called Me to Catch Up After Tom Cruise Split

Joey and Pacey, together again!

On the heels of her divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has been rebuilding her life as a single mom, actress and designer – and reconnecting with pals she made long before she married one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. Last Thursday Sept. 20, Joshua Jackson revealed on Canadian talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight that Holmes, 33, did indeed recently call him up for a long-overdue catch-up.

“Yeah, actually,”the Fringe star, 35, confirmed. What transpired during the chat between Holmes, who played Joey, and Jackson, who play Pacey?

“Like any old friend, it was like, ‘Oh, hi how are ya? What’s going on?’; ‘I had a kid,’” he said of Suri Cruise, 6. The chat was “nice,” Jackson said. “It was very nice, actually.”

No word yet on whether Holmes and Jackson (who has been dating Diana Kruger since 2006) chatted about the possibility of a proper Dawson’s Creek reunion. The WB teen drama went off the air in 2003 after five years; Holmes and Jackson were romantically linked, although the rumors were never confirmed.

Before she filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, Holmes was eager to reunite with Dawson’s costars Jackson, James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams for a potential film – but her then-husband nixed the idea.

“[Producers] were begging her to sign on for a reunion movie,” a source told Us Weekly. “Tom said absolutely no way and thought going backward would be bad.” To the contrary, Holmes “didn’t care how ‘low-brow’ he [thought] Dawson’s Creek is,” the source explained. “She wanted to do the movie and reconnect with her fans. And have fun.”

Check Out an Exclusive First Look at the Final Season of Fringe

The end of Fringe is upon us.

In just over two weeks, the fifth and final season of Fringe will launch. Set in 2036, the story picks up after the Fringe Division has just been just freed from a 20-year slumber in amber — but someone is missing from this Bishop family reunion, as shown in the exclusive first look photo of the fifth season premiere, “Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11.”

Mega Buzz Scoop: A Fringe death?!

Peter (Joshua Jackson), his daughter Etta (Georgina Haig), Walter (John Noble) and Astrid (Jasika Nicole) will have to go on the hunt for the MIA Olivia (Anna Torv), who was not seen during the flash to the future last season. But don’t expect the family reunion to be a joyous one.

“It takes on a slightly different flavor than I think you would anticipate,” Jackson previously teased of the reunion. “It happens quite quickly off the top of the season, and it’s as emotional as you would imagine, but not quite the reunion that you’re expecting.”

Are you excited for the final season of Fringe? The sci-fi series returns Friday, Sept. 28 at 9/8c on Fox.

Fox is close to renewing Fringe for a fifth and final season

Fox is close to renewing Fringe for a fifth and final season, TVWise has learned. For the past couple of months, Fox has been having discussions with Warner Bros. Television about the future of the low rated series. Sources familiar with said discussions tell me that, while there are still a few points that need ironing out, a deal for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes is expected to be reached within the next few weeks.

I’m told that one issue that has been resolved is the length of this fifth and final season; with WB initially pushing for a full season of 22 episodes, while Fox expressed that they would be more comfortable with a “limited episode order” of 7 – 13 episodes, which would get the show close to or past the 100 episode mark required for syndication. Another issue that has been widely reported on is Fox’s licensing fee for the series. I’m told that WB has offered Fox “a substantially lower” fee for the fifth season. As such, insiders tell me that they expect Fox to announce the renewal of Fringe for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes in the coming weeks.

This news will come as a relief to fans of the series, which has had a hard time in the ratings for its last two seasons. The latest episode of the sci-fi series attracted a mere 3 million viewers and a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic in live+same day. With those numbers, most shows would be looking at certain cancellation, but the amount of money Warner Bros. stands to make from off-network syndication deals is the driving force behind the series’ future. The only real question that still needs to be answered is will we see an announcement before the network’s upfront presentation in May?
